I've come back to Chicago for the Quaker Oats Living Proof blogger event. We used to live in the Chicagoland area eight years ago and my son Nathan was born in Lake Forest.
Coming into town you could feel the excitement after Tuesday's election. Around the airport and downtown Chicago, Mayor Daley's office put up banners congratulating "Chicago's own" president-elect Barack Obama. (See the Tribune photo of the banners.)
The Quaker event was extremely informative. I learned much about heart health and nutrition and will share it next week at This Mama Cooks! PepsiCo's LEED certified headquarters was impressive, too. (They own Quaker.) I loved how our very comfortable meeting chairs were made from recycled Aquafina bottles. PepsiCo's green initiatives are outstanding and I hope to share that with you later this week, too.
Now I have a free day in gray overcast Chicago. I'm off to the Field Museum to see the AztecWorld exhibit. Then back home to beautiful (and sunny I hope) Colorado.
I'm off to NJ for the weekend to attend my best-friend-from-childhood son's bar mitzvah. Her bat mitzvah was 27 years ago, and if her son's is half as fun, I'll have a wonderful time.
