It’s a few hours before we’re getting the turkey in the smoker and the three Thanksgiving crockpot recipes going. During this brief respite – I’ve been cooking since yesterday afternoon - I have time to share with you what I’m most thankful for this year.
Yes, there is family and there are friends to be thankful for - that goes without saying. I’m also thankful for my children’s wonderful teachers and school community and grateful that the current board and administration hasn’t messed up the original vision of the school founders – of which I am one – too much.
I’m thankful that Barack Obama was elected and that he’s bringing an awesome First Lady and two adorable kids with him to the White House. I see change as a good thing even though we’ll have to go through some difficult growing pains.
I’m thankful that Bruce Springsteen is playing during the Super Bowl halftime even though I don’t care what teams are playing this year. Love that man and am thankful for his music, talent and vision.
I’m thankful to live in Colorado, one of the most beautiful places on earth. Nice folks out here too, well, as long as you stay away from small town politics and charter school boards.
Most of all this year, I am thankful for blogging. Not only has it given me a way to express myself, it’s also given me a inspiring community of friends and work colleagues. It’s given me opportunities to earn an income from home in my pajamas, yet have a schedule flexible enough to attend a school party. I’ve met some wonderful people through my blogs and in real life at conferences and blogger meet ups.
I also love the perks that blogging brings, whether it’s getting a DVD two weeks before the release date or being able to send a friend in need a coupon for a Thanksgiving turkey. I’m also exposed to new things and am learning all the time about nutrition, health, parenting, and social media. I also love being able to share what I’ve learned about blogging with newbie bloggers, writers and businesses. Long live the new media!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
