I'm contemplating if blogging is a lot like gardening as Kuanyin writes over at Who's Yo Mama? While maybe it's important to blog every day to keep your Technorati rankings high (I'm not one to check), I wonder if regular readers really care?
Experts like Eric Kintz of The Marketing Excellence blog gives 10 reasons why you don't have to post everyday (like #10 - I love my family too much). Still he admits:
If you want to be a top 50 Technorati blogger, you will most probably still need to post several times a day. But for the rest of us, we should think seriously about the added value of frequent blogging. Actually, according to Technorati, only 11% of all blogs update weekly or more. What will matter more and more is what you write and how you engage, not how often you write. As the blogosphere matures, the measure of success will shift from traffic to reader loyalty.
Even so, Kuanyin keeps her priorities straight:
Similar to my garden, I attempt to post (tend) every day. However, there are times when I simply can't because of emergencies, electric power failure, computer difficulties, travel and LIFE CALLING ME TO LIVE AWAY FROM MY COMPUTER. It's like the "Mother May I" game we all played as children. Sometimes there's a giant step backward when the famous Murphy of Murphy's Law makes his appearance in my blog life. Thank God it's not life or death with a blog as it is for plants.
