Big Bad Dad and I were saddened to hear about the passing of Don Knotts.
We're huge fans Knotts' characters in The Incredible Mr. Limpet (a childhood favorite of mine), The Ghost And Mr. Chicken, and as the TV repairman in Pleasantville.
But it was in The Andy Griffith Show that he gave us the American cultural icon of the small town lawman - Barney Fife.
Without Don Knotts, how else would we describe those police officers who are highly skilled in writing speeding tickets but little else?
After Don left the The Andy Griffith Show in its sixth season, the show wasn't as funny or original. As Griffith explained, "He left a hole in the show that could not be filled."
He's left a hole in the world, too. We'll miss you Don.
