Have you had a chance to check out PBS KIDS Sprout yet? It's a new 24-hour preschool tv channel available on Comcast cable and DIRECTV.
Since Boo Girl developed croup last week, it's been a lifesaver since we've been up round the clock. There's something to be said about having decent kids shows, and not ancient episodes of Scooby Do, on at 1:30 a.m.
Many (but not all) of the shows are in 15 minute blocks. So just as you're getting into an episode of Thomas the Tank Engine, it changes to something else. That seems a bit hyperactive especially since my kids are pretty good about sitting through an hour long movie, let alone a half hour show. Also, they decided to keep Caillou, the world's baldest and biggest brat who's only saving grace is that it shows kids how NOT to act.
Per their website:
We realize that childhood is fleeting so we offer shows which allow you and your little ones to share special moments together. We also understand that as a parent, you want a place where you can find entertainment that is fun, safe and educational. Our mission is to provide a varied and innovative programming mix which ensures educational effectiveness and helps children learn and acquire a love of and respect for learning. Our programming is educational, entertaining, and also enhances the parent/caregiver-child relationship.
Our tv schedule is uniquely designed to follow the day of a preschooler from breakfast to bedtime. We feature stimulating and upbeat shows in the morning, designed to get little ones moving and active for the day ahead. Lunchtimes and afternoons offer shows with common learning themes such as shapes, colors and feelings. Evenings include soothing, relaxing shows to help children gently wind down after a busy day.
It's an interesting concept, so check it out.
