Newsweek must not be getting enough letters from parents these days - they ran two articles in the October 31st issue that are sure to fill up their email inboxes and letter bags:
Big Binky Brouhaha - A new study says pacifiers help prevent crib death.
Circumcision - Cutting the HIV Rate? - A landmark study shows that circumcision cuts the risk of HIV infection by as much as 60 percent.
So I went to the BabyCenter boards to find out if there has been any reaction. First, I checked the circumcision board. I guess things got so out of hand on this one that BabyCenter stopped the discussion and has archived posts in read only mode. Then I visited the pacifiers vs. thumb board. Not much here to report, either.
So what's the hot discussion these days on the BabyCenter boards? - Returning to work after taking maternity leave. No surprise there.
Then I went over to Blogging Baby. Circumcision: Is it ethical?, posted by Keith McDuffee, had 112 comments. (Keith closed the comments field off.) And while this garnered much traffic and debate, I saw nothing on the Newsweek article.
Nothing on Opinionated Parenting (the parenting blog at Oh Baby!, the new parenting website from the folks at Oxygen) either. However, they're having a hot debate about co-sleeping.
Maybe most parents are too busy to read Newsweek? Who knows?
(Thanks for the cool pacifier graphic by Andre Mecteau. It can be found on this website.)
